Owner of Eden Pet Care photo

Hello!

I'm Lindsay

As the owner of Eden Pet Care, I’ve always been determined to turn my passion for animals into a profession that helps both pets and their people. This love for animals started young. Since childhood I’ve owned just about every type of pet you can think of and enjoyed several summers volunteering at the city animal shelter. I also had the joy of fostering over fifty kittens in the last two years for a local cat rescue. Currently, I have three cats (River, Danny, and Rodgers) and one dog (Kyra). I have no human kiddos, so my four-legged family means so much to me.

I was born and raised here in Albuquerque, and am a graduate of UNM with a degree in communication and another in biology. I love the outdoors, reading, a good movie, and camping with my dog. I also enjoy studying topics related to my business, pet care, and veterinary medicine from reputable sources and experts in the field.

As for my professional experience, I have worked in veterinary medicine for almost ten years, starting off as a volunteer surgical assistant at the ABQ Animal Welfare Department clinic. I then worked as a fully-trained veterinary assistant at two veterinary hospitals over the course of three years before stepping up to manage a busy, 5-doctor hospital for another 6.5 years. During this time, I was immersed in the world of veterinary medicine and animal health, working alongside the medical director in providing high-standards of patient care and client service. I gained a great deal of experience in small-business management while still frequently working closely with the animals, assisting the veterinarians during exams, and providing medical care to patients and education to clients, as well as training staff members to do the same.

I’ve also had the privilege of volunteering with various animal welfare groups here in New Mexico before working in the veterinary industry. In addition to my time at the city animal shelter, I also spent half a year creating a film about farm animals for Animal Protection of New Mexico that was played in elementary schools across the state. In 2014, I was even lucky enough to help provide veterinary care for village dogs and livestock in South Africa.

My life experience has blessed me with a great deal of knowledge and training in small-animal behavior and handling, health and welfare, the veterinary industry, and small business management. I’m better equipped to read animal body language, recognize sudden health issues in pets, respond appropriately to medical emergencies, handle a distressed or painful animal, safely walk a dog, and try to reduce a pet’s level of stress and anxiety during my time with them.

I am so grateful to all of my clients who choose to trust me with their animal family members. By choosing Eden Pet Care to care for your pets and supporting my small business, you’re contributing to my charitable initiatives to partner with local animal care providers, rescues and charities so that my business can make a difference in the lives of both homed and homeless pets.

And if you’re curious about the meaning behind my business name, here it is! It’s based on the biblical story of “The Garden of Eden”, and is a reminder of a beautiful time when the human-animal bond was perfect, and of the calling upon humanity to care for the creatures on our planet – especially the ones we’ve domesticated and now depend on us for survival. Most of humanity over the centuries have failed in this responsibility, and I want to spend my life making up for that in whatever I do. And help others to do the same.
