Exercise and Enrichment
- Physical activities for dogs, tailored to the home environment. This involves visitations in which we engage in direct and physical play with your dog in your home and/or enclosed backyard, using your dog's regular toys or novel toys that we bring designed to entice your dog to get moving. This service can be particularly beneficial for high-energy dogs or dogs that do not get much-needed physical activity in their day. For small dogs, many of these play-activities can be done indoors.
- Fun activities for cats that get them moving, jumping, pouncing, and chasing. Using your toys and novel toys of our own (and catnip!) we'll play with your cat in specific ways that get their little bodies active and their minds stimulated.
- Brain games - Using some simple home supplies of your own, as well as some of our own creations, we'll come over and provide some mental enrichment for both cats and dogs. This may include the Box Game, hide and seek, the Go-Find-It treat toss game, The Name Game, the Cup Game, etc.. We typically prefer using the treats your pets are currently used to and avoid introducing anything new to their GI tract. However, these games are greatly enhanced when we can use a novel treat, and only use it for when we come over. We can make some healthy recommendations! And always first consult with your vet before adding anything to your pet's diet.
- Kongs, snuffle mats, lick mats, and food puzzles - Using your own pet's food and treats, we'll come put together some delicious activities for your dog or cat to engage with and enjoy. All items are sanitized.
- Learn new tricks - Learning new tricks is a fantastic way to keep your dog's mind active and healthy (especially senior pets! Never too old). Even simple things that most anyone can teach are great, but we'll be sure to bring our own expertise and ideas with us. Or better yet, consult with a dog behaviorist/trainer and they can give us the game plan.
- Positive Associations - If you have a pet that is not yet accustomed to something or is already fearful of it, we can assist in trying to create those positive associations for your pet while you're away. Time, patience, and consistency are key. There are countless things in which we may need or want to create positive associations with for our pets, such as: crates, carriers, doorbells, medication (or pretending to medicate), brushing, muzzle-training, separation-anxiety triggers, touching, noises, etc. It takes time and consistency to create positive associations, let us help!

Puppy Socialization
- Many veterinary and canine behavior professionals emphasize the importance of early and appropriate socialization for puppies so that they can grow up to be mentally and emotionally healthy adult dogs. Socialization helps puppies learn that the world around them is generally safe and therefore they can behave in ways that allow us to integrate them into our lives and into our worlds. Unsocialized puppies often grow up to be "poorly behaved" dogs, and is one of the top reasons people drop their dogs off at the shelter, inappropriately isolate them in neglectful ways, or are even euthanized for behavioral reasons. At Eden Pet Care, we feel strongly about supporting initiatives to keep pets in homes, and it starts with puppyhood.
- Utilizing the research conducted at Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine ("Balancing Puppy Socialization with Infectious Disease Prevention"), we offer this service of early puppy socialization with strict protocols and practices. This means that we do believe in the importance of starting puppy socialization practices before the last booster in the vaccine series. And our protocols would follow the recommended guidelines that exist to greatly reduce the chances a puppy being exposed to infection. Essentially, for puppies that have had at least one vaccine booster but have not completed their full vaccine series, our socialization services would only involve exposures of sight, sound, and smell - with no physical contact with the environment. Depending on the size of the puppy, we would utilize its own carrier/crate/pet-backpack that we carry or push around on a pet-carrier dolly, or we will simply hold your puppy when out-and-about of the home and vehicle. We will also use veterinary-grade disinfectants for our own hands and anything of our own the puppy may come into contact with.
- "Socialization" (and desensitization) of your puppy involves sight, sound, and smell-based exposures to people (with zero physical contact), nearby dogs (no contact), moving vehicles (inside and out), outdoor parks, inside buildings, putting on collars and leashes, nail trimmers, being "examined" and touched, etc.. We can also hang out for a few minutes in the lobby of the groomer's or veterinarian. Positive associations will also be part of the process, in which we will use your puppy's regular treats (or ideally novel treats that you purchase) to give to your puppy every time it experiences an essential exposure with a neutral or positive reaction. No "flooding"-type exposures or negative reinforcement will be used whatsoever.
- Please consult with your veterinarian and ideally a dog trainer/behaviorist prior to utilizing our services. All puppies must have had at least one distemper/parvo vaccine within three weeks of getting started, and must keep up with their vaccine boosters as instructed by your veterinarian. Documentation of vaccine status will be required. For puppies that have completed their vaccine and deworming series, we can (safely) do even more!

- Assistance with planning and preparing your pet for travel. There's so much to consider when traveling with your pets, especially if they are not accustomed to leaving the home or experience stress with travel (as most pets do!). We can help you think through all those things for a smooth, safe and successful journey. This can include consulting you on the process that should begin weeks-to-months in advance, tools and tactics to reduce your pet's travel stress, help ensure you're on the right track with obtaining your pet's required health certificates from your veterinarian, guide you on what supplies to purchase, and more.
- Supply run - A helpful option when you’re completely out of pet supplies but have no transportation or time to get them. Or perhaps an urgent prescription is ready at the vet, but they close before you get out of work. Let us know what you need, and we can get it to you.
- If we are unable or unqualified to assist with a certain aspect of your pet's health and wellness, we can guide you on how to find another pet professional (such as a veterinarian, dog trainer, or USDA pet travel company).
