Veterinary Attendant

Sometimes it’s tough getting an appointment with the veterinarian, and if an available appointment time does not fit into your schedule or you’re simply out of town or unable to attend, Eden Pet Care can help. Or perhaps you are available, but need some assistance with your pet or the process and post-appointment follow-through at home.

With my experience working in veterinary medicine, both as a veterinary technician and a hospital manager, I can help this process go smoothly and help promote the best possible outcome for the circumstances. Before the appointment, I will guide you on the actions that need to take place beforehand to ensure the success of the appointment. During the appointment, I will be there to help ensure effective communication, help with understanding the medical options presented to you in context of at-home application, and help you retain the information by taking notes (research shows we only remember 30% of what our doctors tell us!).

Veterinary Appointment Attendant - Without You

$75

1.5 hours

  • Includes pet transport to the vet, and my attendance and assistance with the appointment

  • Includes a pre-appointment consultation with you

  • Pet parents must be available by phone to participate in the appointment process and communicate with the veterinary team. I will act as your agent to facilitate your participation to the best of our ability and potentially sign paperwork on your behalf if it was unable to be done virtually with you. (See policies page regarding veterinary visits when a pet parent is unavailable by phone during the process.)

A few important policies

  • It is required that your veterinarian be made aware that you will not be present for this appointment and take any actions they require to allow for your absence. You may be asked to review and sign documents, make any required deposits, and be prepared to pay invoices in full at the time of the appointment over the phone. Eden Pet Care will not be responsible for paying your pet’s veterinary bills.

  • If an appointment lasts longer than anticipated, I will first communicate with you and also do my best to stay as long as I can. There will be a fee of $1/minute of extra time. However, if I do not have additional availability, I may request that the veterinarian allow your pet to be “dropped off” or “admitted” so that they can continue working with your pet. If this were to occur, it will be your responsibility to arrange for your pet to be picked up from the veterinarian or you can utilize my pet taxi service if available. Often times your veterinarian will do their best to accommodate any time constraints if they are simply made aware of them.

  • See Pet Taxi page for important policy information.

Veterinary Appointment Attendant - With You

$60

1.5 hours

  • I can either meet you at your home to help with transport or meet you at your vet’s office

  • This also includes a pre-appointment consultation

  • This service could include a variety of forms of assistance, including helping you get your pet into and our of your car, transporting the pet in my car, handling your pet, helping you understanding treatment options in context of at-home application, ask the veterinarian additional questions that may not cross your mind, take notes, and provide guidance on how we can best ensure the veterinarians recommendations can be followed at home.

A few important policies

  • If an appointment lasts longer than anticipated, I will do my best to stay as long as I can if necessary. There will be a fee of $1/minute of extra time. If I do not have additional availability, I will be unable to stay, but will still be able to have the post-appointment consultation with you. If you believe it to be possible this dilemma could occur, this service may not be a good option for you. However, often times your veterinarian will do their best to accommodate any time constraints if they are simply made aware of them.

notes:

  • Be aware that my goal is to support your relationship with your veterinarian, and assist you in evaluating and following your veterinarian’s recommendations to the best of our ability, primarily in context of carrying out your pet’s healthcare at home. During this process, if asked whether or not I agree or disagree with a veterinarian, I will be unable to answer that question and will recommend following his or her recommendations from the options presented.

Rainbow Bridge Escort

$75

  • My deepest sympathies to you if you’re having to consider putting your pet to rest. If you’re unable to be present for this difficult part of the goodbye process, I can be there for you. From my own personal and professional experience with this process, I will advocate for your pet and make sure your pet is as comfortable, and as stress-free, as possible for the entire appointment. One of the main ways to do this, which is understandably very difficult for pet parents, is to contain my own emotions during the procedure. Animals can sense our emotions and in order to help our pets not feel sudden fear or stress, it’s helpful to maintain a sense of calmness and positivity despite the situation. I will also bring a highly tasty treat (perhaps some chicken nuggets!) to give your pet a dose of pure joy as I stay with him or her until the very end.

  • Includes a virtual consultation prior to the service

  • If you need help arranging the appointment, I am happy to discuss the option for additional concierge services.

A few important policies

  • This veterinary appointment and euthanasia service must be pre-approved with your veterinarian beforehand (ASAP) and a euthanasia consent form signed by the pet owner listed on the account at the vet’s office. If you are out of town or unable to sign this form, some veterinarians *may* authorize your consent over the phone. It is important that your veterinarian is already aware of what has been going on medically with your pet and is ready to move forward with your wishes without further discussion.

  • Once the appointment is scheduled, part of this process will involve me confirming the appointment with your veterinarian, simply to ensure they know that a non-owner is bringing your pet for such an important appointment and that paperwork has been finalized.

  • These steps are so important because the last thing you want as a grieving pet parent is a phone call from the vet’s office after you’ve already said your goodbyes. Or worse, your pet returning to you because a veterinarian was unable to move forward due to any miscommunication or protocol problems.
